Peace Church is a Progressive Community of Faith.
So What Does That Mean?
Progressive Christianity is characterized by a willingness to challenge traditional and oppressive ways of being the Church, acceptance of human diversity, a strong emphasis on social justice and care for the poor and the oppressed, and environmental stewardship of the earth.
Following Jesus' teachings to "love one another," progressive churches are characterized by radical hospitality, full inclusion and a heart to actively stand up for and stand beside those who live in the margins of society.
Who is Welcome at Peace Church?
Peace Church (United Church of Christ) believes that everyone is a child of God. We welcome and affirm all persons without regard to gender identity, race, sexual orientation, national origin, faith tradition (or lack of faith or faith tradition), age, diverse ability, marital status, family structure, economic condition, or anything else which threatens to divide God’s family. We recognize that there are differences among us but believe that we can love alike even though we may not think alike. In our quest to follow the example of Christ, we will employ no circles of exclusion and we commit ourselves to loving acts of invitation, hospitality, and reconciliation, providing ministry to, for, and with all persons without exception. We welcome all people to worship, leadership and full ministry in the life of the church.
Worship with Peace Church 5 pm Sundays @ Clemson Downs Corley Center
We meet each week in the Corley Room of the Clemson Downs Retirement Community. Once in the Clemson Downs complex, follow signs for the Corley Center & Administration Building (third road on the right). There will be signs pointing you to Peace Church and you will see rainbow and trans flags hung in the windows. Please park in spots labelled for Visitors or Admin.
Worship is informal but rich and we call upon wisdom from the Bible AND many other places - written texts from many faiths and sources, the world around us, our own experiences. Our theology is "expansive" - growing, learning, evolving. There is no need to dress up for church or bring anything but yourself and an open heart. Our space is fully accessible to wheelchairs or other mobility aids and there is accessible parking directly outside. Bathroom stalls are gendered, BUT often empty, so please use the bathroom that is right for you. If assistance or support would be helpful, please let us know.
Every week, worship is streamed on Zoom. Our zoom community is a full part of the Peace community - participating in music, readings, prayers. If you're visiting for the first time, feel free to check out zoom first. Information is provided below:
